Your Decision Should Be Informed
Voter turnout for local elections is the lowest of all types of elections, and going lower every year. Yet, the level of government that most directly affects you is your local government.
Local government is where your property tax rate is set; this is where decisions are made on how efficiently your garbage is picked up or about closing a fire station in tough budget times. Your local government fills in potholes in your streets, and is the place where large scale economic plans are made for your city.
If you feel like you can't keep up with local news and information in order to make a choice in local elections, you are not alone. People are busy, and while information on national politics is easy to come by on the 24-hour news stations and websites, there are less venues to turn to for local information, and it's hard to put it all together.
The members of Move Lowell Forward are longtime observers of Lowell's political scene. Many of us are lifetime residents of the city. We believe that spreading the information we gather can help you feel more connected to your community and your local government. We're hoping to convince you to turn out for our local elections, because here at the local level, you can really make a huge difference, right in your own backyard!
